Inspired By Melbourne is a social media driven competition where users are given the chance to turn their Instagram photos into clothing designs that will be sold online and in Melbourne retail stores.

Users select one of their Instagram photos which is then turned into a unique clothing pattern using information from the photo such as the like count and colour prominence. Their design is then displayed on a voting site and on digital signage where people can vote for their favourites. The most popular designs are then produced in the form of popular clothing accessories such as ties, socks and scarves and sold at participating retailers in Melbourne and online.

I created prototypes for the design generator using Processing and then converted this into a website using HTML5 canvas. This was then connected to a Node.js back-end which allowed for a fully functional prototype of Inspired By Melbourne.

Pattern Generation
The number of likes and comments on the person's Instagram photo determine how many sides each shape has and how big they are. The scale and consistency of the shapes can then be changed to create a more personal effect.
